Think Environmental: Vape

Vaping for the Environment Of all the reasons to turn to electronic cigarettes, one of the very best besides your health, is the environment. Did you know that cigarette butt pollution is the world’s largest source of ground pollution? In addition to that, growing tobacco is an extremely toxic process, due to the amount of chemicals and radioactive fertilizer that are used.

Switching to electronic cigarettes on the half of the environment is one of the best things you can do as a smoker. Cigarette butts end up everywhere. For some reason, smokers can be rather careless about where they toss them, after smoking simply flicking them to the ground seems convenient. This is such an unfortunate occurrence, though it is a global reality. However this seemingly small action has a long-term, lasting, and toxic effect, because cigarette butts are not designed to disintegrate easily.

Butts are comprised of a vast array of non-biodegradable materials (including fiberglass), they’re loaded with chemicals, and they can take many decades to break down. As they decompose, they leach these chemicals into the environment, creating an ongoing trail of toxins, polluting bodies of water and the earth as it occurs.

All the while, they are a threat to wildlife because they resemble items of food. In turn, they end up in the digestive systems of birds, fish, reptiles, mammals, and marine animals, often killing them, because they can be a choking hazard, or an indigestible item, creating a blockage.

As an alternative, electronic cigarettes offer a practical ecological option because they are a reusable item, and one that does not produce a constant, endless stream of trash. When disposed, they are not easily tossed to the ground and forgotten, they can be recycled, and they are made to last a long while. If using standard e-cigarettes, a helpful comparison to keep in mind that a single cartomizer is equivalent to approximately 40 traditional cigarettes! That cuts back on quite a significant amount of waste!

Surely, there is a great sense of responsibility in either choice, whether you are a smoker or a vaper, regarding how you go about your commitment to disposing of your trash, however simply choosing electronic over analog can help choose the environmental option by halting the treadmill production of trash.

E-Cigarettes & Pregnancy: What You Need to Know

Vaping When Pregnant: NOElectronic cigarette smoking and pregnancy is a really touchy subject, like basically anything that goes against the grain regarding one’s health while pregnant. While smoking used to be pretty commonplace while women were carrying, those rules have changed in the past 50 years, and it’s absolutely advised not to smoke while pregnant. Over the past 25 years the rate of prenatal cigarette usage has dropped incredibly, from approximately 18% to 12%, and this amazing statistic is a testament to the effectiveness of education, awareness, and stricter laws.

However, for smokers who are wondering whether they can switch to electronic if they’re pregnant, the answer is no.

For non-smokers, e-cigarettes offer a wide array of great benefits ranging from convenience, to having more control of one’s lifestyle, to saving money. For pregnant women, however, nicotine is a substance that should be completely abstained from, regardless of the method of intake.

Pregnant women typically have no options other than cold turkey when quitting upon finding out they’re pregnant. Nicotine is so vastly cautioned against that any kind of nicotine replacement therapy is not advised.

Nicotine constricts blood vessels, and for pregnant women this can directly cause harm to the placenta, which will in turn affect the level of oxygen being delivered to the fetus. While tobacco cigarettes may seem like a much more dangerous method, due to the 4000 toxic chemicals they contain, nicotine is still blacklisted due to it’s ability to cause birth defects.

But what about zero nicotine e-liquid? That is still up for debate. Due to the relative newness of the vapor industry, and there being no FDA governance over e-liquids and vapor products, the American Vaping Association recommends women to avoid e-cigarette use entirely during pregnancy. So basically, e-cigs, like tobacco cigs, are off limits if you’re preggo.

If you are pregnant, and are searching for options, we totally understand the position you’re in. While going cold turkey from cigarettes or e-cigs may seem beyond annoying and not the most comfortable path to walk, just remember it’s all about protecting that lil bundle of joy right now!

Vaping for Beginners

How to Start VapingWondering what you need to know before starting to vape? Well, we’ve got all the info, right here! Starting may be a little daunting, but we promise, the hardest part is getting out of your comfort zone and making the leap to change. Once you get past that hurdle, and adjust your mindset accordingly, it’s all good, clean, delicious vapor on the way up! Here’s the basics of getting into vaping.

Vaping 101: What You Need

First things first: you will need gear. The simplest and best thing to start with will be a starter kit; hence the name. You can go after a super basic setup, or go after one with a lot of accessories. Our suggestion is to go for a kit somewhere in the middle; this way you can have some versatility with accessories, without getting overwhelmed by how many products you’ve got. A good e-cig starter kit will contain at least one battery/ e-cig, one charger, and some cartridges.

You can opt for cartridges you refill yourself, or you can go for prefilled. When just starting out, prefilled cartridges are the best to use because they are simpler. Simple pop one in, use it, and then discard it when it’s done.

Things to Keep in Mind

Don’t expect the switch to happen easily, overnight. Be patient as you transition, as there will be some adjusting to a new format if you’re trying to stop using tobacco cigarettes. Drink a lot of water to both process the chemicals from the cigarettes and tobacco out of your system, and to keep yourself hydrated. If you are not satisfied with the hit of your vapor, you may want to change flavors, or try a different nicotine level.

So, that sums up the basics on how to get started vaping. Pretty simple, right? It’s really not terribly difficult, and it can offer a whole of benefits to your daily life. What You Need to Know About Nicotine

shutterstock_356321099Nicotine: you know that substance in cigarettes that causes a pleasantly calming reaction, has been vilified as the evil component of e-liquids, and has acquired a good many different myths and rumors? Here is the deal, the total deal on nicotine, because you need to know!

Nicotine in e-liquid to give smokers that familiar sensation they are accustomed to. You can opt for nicotine-free juice, if that’s your thing, or you can choose among a variety of levels. While we don’t know the exact level that will satisfy you, you can learn about your options to make the right choice for yourself when vaping.

What is Nicotine?

Nicotine is a common substance. While most people understand that it comes from the tobacco plant, it can also be found in other plants, like tomatoes, eggplant, and potatoes in minute levels.

How Does Nicotine Make You Feel?

Nicotine is at once a stimulant and a relaxant, and it can add alertness, calmness, or elevate your mood. As you’re probably aware, it is physically and psychologically addictive.

Choosing a Nicotine Level

Nicotine levels in e-liquid come in different amounts, typically ranging from 0mg, to 0.3% (3mg) at the lowest, and 3.6% (36mg) at the very highest levels.

If you aren’t sure which level will be appropriate for you, it’s important to remember that the higher the nicotine, the more it will impart a harsher taste. Going after a mid-level would be your best bet, so sticking to the 6-12mg would probably work out well. Nicotine also offers a more powerful throat hit, so if you’re a recent ex-smoker, this will probably factor into your satisfaction level. However, if you are wanting a lesser amount of nicotine, but don’t want to sacrifice throat hit, a juice with a higher concentration of PG may be just right.

Is Nicotine Safe For Consumption?

In a short answer: yes. However, as you’re probably aware, it can be dangerous under certain circumstances and if you intend on handling it with your bare hands, it is always advised that you wear gloves. Nicotine can be overdosed on, and it is suggested to steer clear of levels reaching extremely high numbers; anything over 500 mg can be fatal for an adult.

Due to the inherent risk of nicotine e-liquid, bottles should always, under every circumstance, be stored out of reach from children and pets. Accidents happen; it’s always best to play it safe.

So that just about covers all the basics when dealing with nicotine. Yes, there are some risks involved, however, with the right care, it’s safe, enjoyable, and perfectly able to be enjoyed without smoking cigarettes!

Switching to Vapor Can Add Some Spice to Your Sex Life

Smoking & Your Sex LifePretty bold statement, there, right? Think we’re just trying to get your attention by mentioning that switching to e-cigs can benefit your game in the bedroom? Think again! Here are some very thought-provoking facts to consider about smoking, and how it can impact your performance (where it matters most).

Smoke & Your Heart: Smoking is awful for your cardiovascular health in so many ways. Can’t run a solid mile? Get winded when you try to jog around the block? A flight of stairs get you panting (and not in a good way)? If so, then it’s possible that tobacco is having a negative effect on your heart, and you most likely won’t be putting in overtime in the sack. Being able to handle moderate cardio is essential for your heart’s intended functions throughout life, and if it can’t handle simple tasks, and those that should bring the most fun, you may want to reconsider your options.

Smoke & Your Lungs: In conjunction with good heart health, having properly functioning lungs is also necessary to your sex life. Your respiratory system takes care of your ability to breathe; if you can’t breathe well, you’re not going to be able to do much of anything that requires physical effort for long. Feeling like you’re going to pass out in the middle of a good time is never hot.

Libido: Smoking has the potential to decrease the libido; talk about a turnoff! And, if smoking has caused you to get out of shape, you probably don’t feel particularly sexy… which can put a hamper on any sultry escapades you would have been having otherwise.

Erections: Yeah, we’re going there. If the heart, blood vessels, and blood flow get affected by something, your ability to have potent erections probably will too. Smoking messes with practically every system in the body, and research suggests that men who smoke are twice as likely to develop ED as nonsmokers.

So, are you convinced that tobacco is not sexy at all yet? With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, there is no better time than right now to be thinking about all things love and lust related! Simply: if you want to improve your sex life, vapor is the way to go. Lucky for you, we’ve got a great selection of e-cigarette starter kits that can make it easy and sexy to make the switch; what are you waiting for?

When Vapers Have Had Enough: Tacoma-Pierce Country Vapers Fighting Regulations

Vapers in Tacoma-Pierce WA. fight regulationsVapers in Tacoma-Pierce County, Washington have had enough with nonsensical, overbearing, unfair, discriminatory regulations. Instead of sitting back and taking the heat, they’re taking the county to court.

That’s right. A non-profit comprised of vapers, known as the Pink Lung Brigade filed a lawsuit last Monday in Tacoma-Pierce county on grounds that these new e-cigarette restrictions have no foundation based in science. From their perspective, these regulations, which have no serious evidence backing them, have the potential to force businesses to close. They are not requesting damages in the lawsuit, but they do want the judge to overturn these rules before small businesses have to shut down as a result.

Recently, Tacoma-Pierce County passed a string of restrictions that are not sitting well with the vaping community, who feel they are unfairly being targeted, and their business have the potential of suffering as a result.

“This new rule can be abused to force a retail shop into bankruptcy,” read the statement released by the nonprofit. It was signed by Marc Jarrett, one of the directors of the Pink Lung Brigade, who also happens to be one of the owners of Banzai Vapors, a nearby shop.

These new regulations will now prohibit vapers from using vapor devices in public places, places/ sites of work, and will even limit the extent to which people can sample the products and liquids in vapor shops. Owners of vapor shops now have to purchase designated licenses to operate their businesses. And, the most absurd of these regulations states that shop owners are going to be required to purchase elaborate ventilation systems, which can cost in excess of $80,000 just to own and operate.

Regarding the industry as a whole, we are proud to see businesses standing up for what they believe is right. As regulations begin to emerge throughout the country, it’s so important for the vaping community to make it known that being treated unfairly, without proper cause or reason will not be tolerated. We wish the Pink Lung Brigade all the best in their noble efforts for justice!

Perhaps you will never again touch another traditional cigarette, however, expect to need some time to transition thoroughly.

One of the benefits to switching your method of smoking, (to vapor cigs) as opposed to outright quitting, is that you get the freedom of creating so much of the same experience. You still get to enjoy the feeling of actually smoking, being able to puff on the e-cigarette and feel the hit of vapor in your throat, and tasting it. You will still get that familiar feeling of nicotine, if you decide to use cartridges at a similar level of nicotine you are used to. It’s really quite similar, and it’s a process that can be tailored to your needs.

The first week is typically the hardest because the change will most likely hit you most dramatically. THe cravings for what you’re used to will probably hit. Your habit of lighting and smoking the cig will probably irk you. Your body will most likely yearn for the chemicals it no longer is being fed. This is all very normal. Stick with it though, it’s only a matter of time before this passes.

Having the ability to customize your vaping is another benefit you have when switching to e-cigs. There are so many options, you have the ability to go with more or less nicotine, choose your flavor, choose the style and size of your device, choose amongst a wide array of different devices, which accessories to incorporate into your usage; there are just so many ways to make vaping a part of your lifestyle, and tailor it into your way of life; unlike tobacco, which required you to adapt to its conformity. If 2016 is your year to get smoke free, stay on track; you’ll be so proud of yourself once you make it through!

Holiday Travel & E-Cigs

DOT Bans E-Cigarettes From Checked Bagged on Airplanes So the holiday season is fully upon us, and with that comes a massive amount of travel. And, just in time, the Department of Transportation recently announced that a new Federal rule has been passed, stating that airline passengers and crew members will no longer be able to pack electronic cigarettes, of any variation into their checked luggage. This includes standard electronic cigarettes, personal vaporizers, e-hookahs, dry herb vaporizers, mods, or any other variety of electronic nicotine delivery systems. So if you’re planning on hitting the skies for holiday travel, you best have an alternate plan for your gear!

This e-cigarette regulation comes as a precaution, as the Department of Transportation states there have been several occurrences of electronic cigarette items catching fire recently, and such fire hazards concerning air travel in checked luggage are an immense danger. Citing two dozen instances where e-cigarettes were related to fires or explosions, since 2009, including several occurring in checked luggage, they felt it was an imminent threat requiring action. This measure went into immediate effect in November.

It should be noted that this new rule does not ban e-cigarettes outright from being carried on aircraft, however. Passengers may continue to hold electronic cigarettes/ electronic nicotine delivery systems in their carry-on luggage or in their pockets, but they may not be used or charged during flights.

So what does this mean for holiday air travel and e-cigs? Easy: don’t pack your e-cigs into your checked luggage! We’ve suggested this for a long time due to not being able to have control over your luggage once it is checked, and if items are considered suspicious, you will not be able to stop airlines from tossing them. On the positive, this added safety measure comes with proper education and precaution; when it comes to airline safety, it’s always best to cover all bases. Safe travels, everyone!

CDC Clarifies Common E-Cig Myth: Nonsmokers Are Not Interested

CDC Data The Centers for Disease Control (the CDC) recently reported that e-cigarettes pose way less of a threat than critics have been portraying them as, even as the popularity of electronic cigarettes grows. And, to stick it to the nonsensical rumor that electronic cigarettes are a danger to society because they are going to encourage a new wave of nonsmokers converting to the tobacco-smoke-filled dark side, the data cited by the CDC turns this misguided theory on its side.

The CDC has based their status on the findings of a new study from the National Health Interview Study, which has provided the latest, most conclusive statistics on the habits of smokers and recently quit nonsmokers.

Stats From the Study

In the study, it was determined that 12.6% of American adults had, at least at one time, tried an e-cigarette. It also concluded that 3.7% of American adults currently use electronic cigarette devices regularly, which means that at a minimum they use them some days. Among the other interesting findings from the study, 47% of current smokers, and 55% of former smokers who had recently quit smoking have tried an electronic cigarette or other vapor device item at least once. 15.9% of tobacco smokers and 22% of recently quit former smokers are using electronic cigarettes on a somewhat regular basis. Also of note, tobacco users who are currently smoking  who had, within the last year, attempted to quit cigarette smoking were much more likely to employ electronic cigarettes as a method than smokers who made no effort to quit smoking.

As these findings from the study show, electronic cigarettes are being used by people who want to stop smoking tobacco, and are favoring their options in having alternatives, rather than nonsmokers who are getting lured into smoking by these attractive, trendy devices. The study also found that less than o.4% of nonsmokers have actually been introduced to smoking as a result of e-cigarettes, evidence that nonsmokers are really not that interested. And for publishing this, as well as agreeing with the e-cigarette usage scientific data found in this study, we applaud the CDC for their ability to read between the lines of fact and fiction.
