Vapor Smoking and Your Pets

pets-friendship-friends

For the health of smokers everywhere, the rise in the use of electronic cigarettes is a good statistic. Furthermore, vapor smoking not only has a positive effect smokers first hand, but it effects those around them. Although there is study material on the effects of tobacco cigarettes use on smokers and their families, what is often overlooked (at least by smokers) is the effect they have on our four-legged children: the family pet.

The positive effects of vapor smoking on the family pet

Just as people are negatively affected by secondhand smoke, pets are affected as well. However, while some pets are known to leave the area when an owner is smoking, most stay close and; thus, continue to breathe in harmful secondhand smoke.

In addition to breathing in secondhand smoke, dogs can also suffer from allergic dermatitis (a skin condition characterized by an inflammation of the skin). Moreover, pets can develop cancer from tobacco cigarettes just like their owners. A pet owner who switches to electronic cigarettes does not have to worry about increased vet bills trying to ease their pet suffering from an allergic reaction or even different forms of secondhand smoke-related cancers.

Cats in particular are susceptible to third-hand smoke (the smell and toxins that cling to surfaces exposed to tobacco smoke) because they are meticulous groomers—licking themselves to stay clean and ingesting the deadly cocktail.

With a switch from traditional cigarettes to vapor smoking, however, Fido or Fluffy can continue to curl up in your lap without fear of becoming sick.

A Word of Caution

However, whether you smoke traditional or electronic cigarettes, pet owners must be mindful of where their devices are stored because the nicotine—whether in liquid form or tobacco—is potentially fatal to animals. In recent months, there have been instances where animals have picked up and punctured an e-liquid cartridge and have become seriously ill or died due to acute nicotine poisoning.

Vapers should also be mindful of where they store their electronic cigarettes because the device itself, if ingested, could result in an animal needing surgery to repair any tears or retrieving the device if it becomes lodged in the throat.

Animal experts state that nicotine ingestion can cause vomiting, tremors and an abnormal heart rate in any cat or dog.

What to do in the event of ingestion

If you believe that your pet has chewed on your electronic cigarette (or any other potentially harmful substance), the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) recommends that you take 30-60 seconds to collect any of the material involved and place it in a sealable bag and then see your vet immediately.

If the potential toxin is unidentifiable, this can help the vet/toxicologist narrow down the substance.

As you can see, it isn’t just people that require attention when it comes to smoking and any decisions about how you manage vapor smoking. At eversmoke.com—along with our blog and knowledge center—you can learn about the exciting world of vapor smoking and electronic cigarettes.

Am I Allergic to My E-cigarette?

woman-at-a-table-with-a-tissue

Scenario: you’ve just started e-smoking and now you’re experiencing headaches and a sore throat or other allergy symptoms and you’re wondering if your new e-cigarette is to blame. Before throwing in the towel and going back to tobacco cigarettes, you should research to ensure that you are in fact experiencing symptoms related to vaping.

Commonly, allergic reactions to e-liquid come from propylene glycol (PG), an organic compound makes up the base of most e-liquids and is responsible for holding the nicotine and flavor in suspension and causing plumes of smoke-like vapor.

The problem is, however, vaping allergic reactions and tobacco cessation symptoms can be the same. One way to check is to stop e-smoking for a couple of days and if your symptoms clear up, chances are you’re experiencing a reaction to something in your e-liquid.

For more information on e-cigarettes and allergy, please read more in our article: Problems While Vaping: Is it an Allergic Reaction or a Cessation Symptom?

EverSmoke uses a 70/30 (PG and VG respectively) blend in all of our e-cigarettes. Do not despair: if you’re experiencing adverse reactions to your e-cigarette when vaping, you should try switching flavors until you find one that works for you. It is much better to switch products until you discover the one(s) that work best for you. Going back to tobacco is the worst mistake you can make!

True or False: Biggest E-Cigs Myths Busted

imgresWhile much debate exists around electronic cigarettes and why you should, or should not use them, two of the most powerful tools to have on your side is the ability to understand common sense and being able to research. Don’t just take a company’s word for something; learn as much as possible. One of the best places to start on is the EverSmoke Knowledge Center, where you can find fact-based, propaganda-free informational articles on all things related to e-smoking. Here is a look at some of the most common e-cigarettes myths, and the truth behind them.

-Electronic cigarettes are not a safe alternative. False! This is completely untrue, as they contain none of the tobacco or chemicals as tobacco. They do contain nicotine, at varying levels the user can choose from, making them a viable alternative.

-E-Cigarettes are not a real method for quitting smoking. True. E-cig users all have personal preferences on how they choose to use them, and fit them into their lives and daily usage, however per the FDA, electronic cigarettes are not a means by which smokers can quit smoking. Countless smokers have switched to vaping successfully, however, and aren’t looking back to their days of smoke.

-Electronic cigarettes are not regulated. Not quite true, as they are in the beginning stages of regulation by the FDA. The products are treated just like tobacco products and are prohibited for sale to minors.

-E-Cigarettes cause cancer too. False. There is no proof to back up this statement. The long term effects of e-cigarettes are not known yet, and they just haven’t been around long enough for studies to prove it.

-There’s no disclosure as to what is in the e-liquid. False. Depends on the brand, because this sort of generalization does not apply to brands that choose to let their users know what they are purchasing and using. Many brands do not, however, so investigate before investing in a brand. A good company will give you all the details.

Can E-Cigs Really Explode? – Just How Safe Are They?

safety-and-quality

Since e-cigs have been on the market, there have been various views on the safety of the product.  Can an e-cigarette catch on fire or blow up in your face?  The majority of the accusations cannot be proven.   However, as with anything electrical, proper care must take place to help ensure safety.

Because the battery is the part that powers the e-cigarette, the utmost care needs to be given to that part of the device.  At Eversmoke, we use a lithium-ion battery which is safer than any other battery type.  Because of the safety of this battery it is used not only in our e-cig products but in laptops, cell phones and various other products.

First and foremost, you need to buy your e-cigarette products from a reputable company such as Eversmoke that believes in only using the safest components available. For example, we have a safety circuit microchip in our products to prevent overcharging and overheating.  This is very important when you are researching and considering what company to use when making your e-cigarette purchase.  Stay away from non-reputable type of companies that may use substandard components.

But as stated above, because these devices are run on batteries, proper care and common sense come into play.  One very important piece of advice is to never leave a battery charging unattended.  Also, a hot car is completely off limits to where you should leave a battery charging.

If the battery looks odd, swollen or feels very hot to the touch, do not use it.  It is vital to make sure it is a properly operating battery before you use it.  Also, if you take out the battery, make certain it is stored properly and has a case that can protect it.

Basically, if you have a good reputable e-cig, it has been manufactured properly and you take care of it, safety should not be an issue.  For more information regarding various safety issues, please check out our article in our knowledge center, and continue browsing blog for more information regarding electronic smoking and e-cigarettes.

E-Smoking on the High Seas

The US Navy has embraced smokeless cigarettes and is now permitting their use onboard aircraft carriers

uss-intrepid

Gone are the days when those serving in the military were given cigarettes when they were overseas fighting wars (cigarettes used to be included in a soldier’s daily rations). Now due to rising health costs that stem from consuming tobacco products, there have been efforts to curb smoking in the military. Until recently, however, the military has not taken a stance one way or the other about smokeless cigarettes.

While the Air Force is including the devices in their no smoking policy, the U.S. Navy is beginning to allow sailors to use smokeless cigarettes onboard ships. Recently, the USS George Washington became one of the first aircraft carriers to permit sailors to vape on deck. Sailors have been offered a ‘smoke deck’ that is solely for e-smoking—they still are not permitted to vape anywhere they’d like.

Before making the decision to allow sailors to use smokeless cigarettes on board aircraft carriers, researchers made sure that there was enough demand and desire for an e-smoking deck before unveiling it.

Having a separate vaping deck will give sailors who enjoy e-smoking a social atmosphere with like-minded, vaping sailors. The creation of a designated e-smoking deck however does not mean that sailors would not be permitted to use their smokeless cigarettes on the traditional smoking deck.

When leaders decided to add an e-smoking deck to the USS George Washington, it was not their goal to promote or prohibit smoking; rather, they wanted to provide sailors with the tools they need to perform their work.

The changes made onboard the George Washington seem to be having a positive effect on those onboard. If these results continue, it is only logical that some of the Navy’s other aircraft carriers will begin providing separate vaping spaces for their sailors as well.

How to Enhance Your E-Cig Performance

are-e-cigs-safeWhen vaping there is no right or wrong, however there is good and better. If you need some e-cigarette troubleshooting, or are having performance issues with your electronic cigarette or vaporizer, here are some tips to keep in mind. Hiccups in performance can often come down to minor little things, that can be resolved really quickly, so don’t stress it!

-Keep your e-cigarette device clean. Dirt, grime, liquid buildup and funk don’t do you any favors, so do your e-cig a favor and keep things clean. Wipe down the body, all connecting points, and the area surrounding the cartridge regularly with a soft cloth and/ or a q-tip.

-Don’t overcharge the battery, that will only cause it to wear out faster.

-Don’t drop your device. Yes, common sense will tell you this is necessary, but let’s reiterate to make it more apparent. Dropping an e-cig can be bad.

-If you’re using e-liquids do not overfill your tank. As tempting as it may be, if your tank is not producing adequate vapor or is leaking, it could be as a result of overfilling. Never more than 75%, ok?

-Don’t over tighten your cartridge onto your e-cig. It should be screwed on firmly, but not too tight. This will cause little to no vapor production.

-Don’t mix different products from different brands, they’re just not designed to go together. We can’t alert you of anything specific that may arise, but results could be dangerous.

-When using mods don’t use batteries and other components not specified for your particular device by the manufacturer.

-Is your cartridge giving off a burnt or foul taste? The problem could be that the cartridge needs replacing.

Is your e-cig giving you a sore throat? Try increasing your water intake, lowering the level of your nicotine, or trying a different flavor.

Battery not producing ample power? It might need to be charged! If it does have adequate power, it could be that your battery is just ending it’s life cycle. Or perhaps you’re vaping needs have increased and it’s ready to move onto an advanced product.

Whether you want to boost your e-cigs performance, or you’ve got an issue, there’s a solution! Whether it’s an easily fixable one that requires just a tweak or two, or you need to entirely replace your e-cigarette, troubleshooting can help get you the fix.

Fun Places to Vape

vapingUsing electronic cigarettes can be convenient, money saving, pleasurable, enjoyable, and so very functional. In addition to all the many ways they benefit the lives of smokers by offering a modern alternative to an old-school product, one of their many overlooked advantages is how fun they are to use. So, in that light, here are some of the most exciting places to vape! Having the ability to smoke again in public rocks!

The mall or when shopping: this way you can keep strolling, browsing, and getting what you need and enjoy your nicotine as you please.

Bars and restaurants: what goes with beer, cocktails, and food better than smoking? Whether it’s to enhance the feeling or to satisfy that after-dinner urge, being able to smoke at the table again is priceless.

In the Car: passengers don’t always take kindly to smoke in the car, however vapor cigs while traveling carry no smell, nor do they fumigate a small space like a car like smoke. Big bonus is not having to worry about burning your seats.

In the house: Yes, indoor smoking without being completely atrocious is now possible! No staining, stinking, or burning involved!

Vaping at family gatherings without feeling like an outcast or leper: Big groups of people and smoke don’t work well together, however with e-cigs you don’t have to worry about offending anyone. Hey, you may even provide some good inspiration for striking up conversations on these fancy new cigarettes!

At the pool or beach: Relaxing, lounging and playing in the water is so much better when you can unwind with a smoke. Cigarettes are usually not tolerated at most public pools, and many beaches now restrict them as well. Along those lines, we know very well how unsavory cigarette butt pollution is; so eliminate that negative with e-cigs.

Walking the dog: A ambling stroll on a cool afternoon with your dog is one of life’s simple pleasures, and when you’ve got your electronic cigarette in hand, it goes all the better.

Electronic smokeless cigarettes can do practically anything traditional cigarettes can, however they just do it better! By adding convenience, removing obstacles, they make it more accessible for you to enjoy smoking again. Simply, why smoke cigarettes if e-cigarettes make it more fun?
