Why is Everyone Switching E-Smoking?

reasons to switch to vapingIt seems these days that smokers are switching to vaping all the time, and in greater numbers. Here’s a look at why!

  1. Technology: It’s everywhere. Technology has seeped into every nook, cranny, and aspect of our lives, and in many ways, improved it. Digital smoking has enabled smokers to have a more modern, simplified, cleaner way to smoke.

  2. Savings: Everyone wants to save more money, and factoring in how expensive smoking cigarettes is, alternatives are a total necessity. Vaping can save smokers thousands of dollars every year!

  3. Enjoyment: For many, vaping is vastly more enjoyable than smoking, and it becomes as much of a hobby out of enjoyment, as a craving for nicotine.

  4. Freedom: Who doesn’t need more? Freedom from ashtrays, from having to be in specific places to smoke, from feeling like a leper anytime you want to smoke… vaping offers much more ability to simply enjoy the process.

  5. Options: The amount of different options vapers have opposed to smokers is beyond compare. Different devices, ways to charge, accessories, flavors, nicotine levels, liquid ratios; it’s astounding and amazing!

  6. Convenience: Having smoking fit into your lifestyle, instead of having to work around it all the time is major. Convenience is a big part of what e-cigarettes offer!

  7. No smoke = none of the problems of smoke. Smoke is pretty awful, and it leaves behind a foul residue, AKA tar. No one likes secondhand smoke, and once you leave it behind, and get used to the clean essence of vapor, you’ll most likely never look back!

  8. No smell: Cigarette smoke and the lingering funk it leaves behind in its wake are just gross. They are the antithesis to clean, fresh air, and more akin to nasty, musty, and dingy.

  9. No stigma: While some people saunter through life never caring what others think, for those who do care about what others around them think, the stigma of smoking is not comfortable. It’s a reality for smokers that they are often looked down upon, and it’s rather nice to shed this image when one becomes a vaper.

  10. No tobacco: because tobacco is the root of the problem. It is the part of the cigarette that requires burning. It is the part that creates smoke. It is the part that causes the most harm. Without tobacco, cigarettes are rendered useless. Most smokers are thrilled to leave the tobacco behind because they know that it is the worst part of smoking.

Having an alternative option such as vaping has allowed smokers to enjoy what they love about smoking, in a much cleaner, simpler, more enjoyable way, without all of the negatives. Smokers are switching because they are finding their needs met in a better way. Technology is amazing, isn’t it?

What is the Best Temperature for E-Cigs?

Extreme Temperatures and E-CigsThis summer has been a scorcher, hasn’t it? With record-breaking temps all across the land, and far away as well, here’s a little PSA about your e-cigs and the heat. Particularly, why the heat is not compatible with them, and why keeping them at a controlled level around room temperature is ideal.

If you consider your electronic cigarettes an investment, which we hope you do because they do offer so much in the way of pleasure and savings, treating them properly is essential to making this investment last as long as possible.

You’ve probably figured out by now that the most important part of your e-cig is the battery. It is the main component of the device, and it is the most delicate. Atomizers get replaced every time you swap out a cartridge, and every other part can be replaced rather easily. Therefore, the battery is the lifeblood of vaping. It is at once the power source and the base of the device. Protect this one part, if you opt to neglect others!

Extreme temperatures, particularly those on the hot end of the spectrum, are especially dangerous to e-cigarette batteries. These batteries, which are lithium ion batteries, cannot handle extreme heat or cold, so keeping them in your car, on the dashboard, out on the porch, or in sunny windows, is never a good idea! Even if the temperatures are moderate, your car is the worst place to hold your devices and batteries because cars heat up way hotter inside than outside, and this can cause immense damage on your batteries. The dangers range from a wide array of possibilities; from melting and warping to inflicting damage upon the battery that causes it to drain faster.

However, freezing temps are also not exactly ideal, as freezing can cause the liquid to freeze, which in turn can cause the inner workings of your battery to expand, and outright destroy the battery.

Another no-no? Moisture. Whether in the form of rain, humidity, or other accidental exposure, water and electronic devices generally do not play well together, so keep your e-cig battery safe, dry, and away from any external sources of water.

Keeping your e-cigarette batteries safe and protected is so important to their overall lifespan and ability to provide you with the tobacco-free enjoyment you want. While it may seem bothersome to take these extra precautions, your e-cigs are worth it; protect your investment!

Study Shows E-Cigs Produce Formaldehyde Only Under “Extreme Conditions”

Nobody wants to ingest formaldehyde – that bad smelling liquid you may remember from biology class during the lesson on dissection. Well, did you know that every time you smoke a tobacco cigarette, that’s exactly what you’re consuming, along with a whole host of other toxic chemicals?

Gross, right? Well the same argument has been unfairly lodged against electronic cigarettes, but fortunately now we have some data that says otherwise.

A recent study, conducted by cardiologist Dr. Konstantinos Farsalinos and reported on by Wired Magazine, has revealed that some electronic cigarettes do indeed release harmful amounts of formaldehyde, but only under extreme conditions.  Formaldehyde could be detected when a vapor smoker repeatedly attempted to “dry puff” – a situation which is rare due to the unpleasant experience a dry hit provides.

These results challenge a 2015 study published in the New England Journal of Medicine that said electronic cigarettes produced a higher amount of formaldehydes than traditional analog cigarettes.  However, in that particular study, vaping habits were never taken into consideration.

In this recent study led by Dr. Farsalinos, he discovered that formaldehydes, which are carcinogenic and found in traditional tobacco cigarettes, can also be released by a third-generation electronic cigarette.  Certain advanced e-cigs offer a variety of power settings that a vapor smoker is able to customize for maximum e-liquid flavor.

However, Dr. Farsalinos explain further that the emission of aldehydes from these e-cigs was dramatically lower than those found in cigarette smoke.

The conclusion of Farsalinos study determined that in “real world” vaping situations, the amount of formaldehyde released from e-cigs is significantly less than from traditional cigarettes unless a person is participating in the rare and nasty act of repeat dry vaping.

Since its publication, the study has made big waves in the health community since now all the media hype about the dangers of formaldehyde in electronic cigarettes may need to be reconsidered.

The Dirt on Diacetyl

The Benefit of Diacetyl-Free E-LiquidOne of the big buzzwords in the e-cig industry at the moment is Diacetyl. As in, diacetyl-free e-liquids are the preferred liquids to be vaping because diacetyl is a pretty sketchy additive.

So, if you’re not in the know, here is some useful info regarding it; what it is, why you may not want it in your liquids, and what it’s known to do! We feel that being an informed vaper is key to making the best decisions, and educating yourself is always to your benefit!

Recently, there was some media hype regarding this substance, and a slew of reports began promulgating all liquids as containing it. Of course, as to be expected with spin, these erroneous reports were shot down, particularly when liquids were tested on a British TV program, where the findings discovered only one of ten brands tested contained the substance. And, just for the record, EverSmoke liquids contain no diacetyl, so vape on on with confidence!

What is it?

Diacetyl is a flavor additive used in a variety of different foods, and it originates as a byproduct of the dairy industry. It is used to impart a buttery, or sweetish flavor. When eaten, it is considered to be generally safe, however, when inhaled into the lungs, it’s a different story altogether!

Why is it Dangerous?

Diacetyl becomes dangerous when it is heated and then inhaled into the lungs, consistently over extended time periods. Diacetyl is known to cause the dangerous lung disease, bronchiolitis obliterans, also known as “popcorn lung,” which inflames the bronchioles, obstructing the airflow, resulting in wheezing and a dry cough.

How to Avoid it:

If you’re interested in vaping with liquids that do not contain this lovely stuff, luckily, you probably won’t have a hard time deducing a brand that is committed to keeping diacetyl out of their liquids. For starters, EverSmoke contains no diacetyl, and we can attest (unbiasedly) to the delicious flavors offered in our cartridges.

Hype and hysteria my serve the purpose of bringing to light issues that of great importance to the public, however, facts are always a necessity. E-cigarette myths are always abundant, so reading between the lines is really important. While diacetyl may be found out there in other brands’ liquids, and even though it’s got some pretty negative connotations attached to it, it can (and should) be avoided. The simple solution? EverSmoke!

Are Harvard Researchers Biased Against E-Cigarettes?

If you keep up with the news and research, you may have heard about the Harvard study claiming that one third of all e-cigarette users are nonsmokers. This data, if true, would of course detract from the many supposed benefits of switching to electronic cigarettes.

Well E Cigarette News believes that the conclusion of the Harvard study was unfairly biased against e-cigarettes.  They say the researchers chose to report their findings in a negative way against electronic cigarettes that was not consistent with their own findings.

The statement that E Cigarette News believes is inconsistent is as follows:

“In conclusion, there has been rapid growth in ever and current electronic cigarette use over the past five years, although growth in current use slowed down from 2013 to 2014. Although smokers are most likely to use these products, almost a third of current users are nonsmokers, undermining potential public health benefits of cigarette smokers possibly switching to electronic cigarettes.”

A key finding in the study was that 20.7% of current electronic cigarette users used to be cigarette smokers.  What was important in this study was how they divided the study groups.  The two groups consisted of those who had quit smoking more than six years ago and those who had quit less than six years ago.

E Cigarette News makes the assumption that an individual who had quit smoking more than six years prior to using e-cigarettes would be a “negative outcome” (in the eyes of researchers), meaning they were drawn back to nicotine through electronic cigarettes; whereas those who had quit less than six years ago would represent smokers who had used e-cigs to transition from traditional smoking, which would be considered a positive outcome.

However, the Harvard study started on the assumption that all who began smoking electronic cigarettes were ex-smokers who were drawn back into nicotine use because of e-cigs.  As the study itself shows, only 2.8% were distant smokers and 17.9% were smokers of less than six years.

Could this data not otherwise suggest that almost 18% of these individuals used e-cigs as a smoking alternative to their traditional cigarette habit?  Instead, the conclusion of the study states that all 20.7% of these smokers were enticed back into nicotine due to e-cigarettes.

E-Cigarette News and other industry advocates are concerned that the anti-tobacco groups are using biased studies and research for form new legislation and public opinion.  Their hopes are for people to put aside opinions and examine the real science behind e-cigarettes.

The Science Behind Nicotine Addiction

addiction monitor

Studies have proven the destructive power that certain addictions can have on the human body. Some scientists even suggest that nicotine addiction may be the worst addiction that the world has faced.

However, have you ever wondered what makes nicotine so addictive?

If you are reading this blog, then I suppose you have…so let’s find out.

Exploring Addiction

First, nicotine addiction is not a simple addiction; it is what’s known as a physical addiction, which means that the human body experiences relief and/or pleasure upon ingesting the substance and a tangible discomfort (i.e. withdrawal) when we don’t ingest. The same can be said for other drugs like opioids, but it is suggested that nicotine is more addictive.

Nicotine addiction happens when nicotine molecules interact with receptors in the brain. Once nicotine molecules contact these receptors, a process called acetylcholine begins. Acetylcholine is responsible for making humans alert and conscious. By triggering this process, you could say that nicotine makes the mind livelier.

In addition to acetylcholine, nicotine also turns on dopamine processes. Dopamine is responsible for attraction and is the real driving force behind addiction—it is our pleasure center.

Once nicotine has entered the body, the molecules colonize our pleasure or comfort centers. When more of these comfort centers are turned on than discomfort centers, the brain (i.e. the human) does not want to quit the substance causing the pleasure. Moreover, the receptors even grow accustomed to the feeling, which is what causes humans to feel withdrawal if we take the substance away.

A Study on Addiction

American researcher Gene Heyman has studied the science behind addiction since the 1970s. In one such addiction study, he compiled information about the duration of time it takes people to give up several addictions.

According to his findings, he discovered that cocaine users were able to recover from their addiction in an average of four years, and those who were clinically dependent on marijuana took six years.

By comparison, those who were addicted to alcohol and nicotine took longer surprisingly. Alcoholics took on average 15 years to lose their dependency completely, and those with nicotine addictions took an average of 30 years.

You sure won’t see that factoid on the side of a cigarette package!

This gives scientific credence to the struggle those who wish to abstain from smoking tobacco cigarettes fight each day. Moreover, it also shows that those who struggle should not feel discouraged by setbacks.

Big Gains in Unexpected Places from E-Cigarette Sales

businesswoman pulling graphic

The growing e-cigarette trend is helping to put a serious dent in the number of tobacco smokers in the U.S. today, this is according to a recent Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report.

The CDC says that the 18% drop in tobacco use has been offset e-cigarette use. These rates of change have also triggered an increase in tobacco cigarette prices as cigarette companies seek to maintain their revenues.

Wells Fargo also projected that e-cigarette sales will be higher than tobacco cigarette sales in just 5 years or so. If this is true, then there is a great deal of money to be made off e-cigarettes. But who stands to profit from these increased sales? One answer could shock you.

Big tobacco companies are one of the businesses that may stand to benefit from an increase in e-cigarette sales. This is partly because some of the biggest cigarette companies have also begun getting in the e-cigarette game.

In 2014, Altria acquired Green Smoke Inc. and just this year released their brand of e-cigarettes. Likewise, Reynolds American has begun collaborating with Lorillard to produce electronic smoking devices.

States Cashing In on E-Cig Sales

On top of the profit tobacco companies stand to make off e-cigarettes sales, state governments could as well—specifically through savings from Medicaid.

According to a State Budget Solutions report, at least 45 states (plus D.C.) would gain more money through Medicaid savings than they lost from being taxed for cigarettes and settlement payments. The report also states that around 51% of those on Medicaid smoke cigarettes. By reducing the number of Medicaid recipients who smoke, it could save states billions of dollars (around 48 billion to be more specific) in healthcare costs alone. This savings more than the states collected through taxes in 2012—around $24 billion.

Is it Safe to Vape and Drive?

smoking and driving

One of the most dangerous activities you do on a daily basis is getting behind the wheel of a car.  If this were not the case, you wouldn’t cringe whenever your teen pulls out of the driveway for the first time alone.

For teens and adults alike, driving is a huge responsibility and being distracted even for one moment can have devastating consequences.  Because of the real danger of distracted driving, many states have banned the use of electronic devices, such as smart phones and mp3 players, when operating a vehicle.

However, currently, there are no laws stating that an e-cig is one of the electronic devices that is considered banned.  Whether the e-cig is considered a “handheld electronic device” would be up to each individual state.

Of course, that doesn’t mean high ohm vaping in the car is totally safe.  We all know that texting and driving is a dangerous mix, but what about vaping and driving?

Vaping and Driving Safety Tips

Anything you do while driving that doesn’t involve paying attention to the road can be considered a dangerous distraction.  This includes vaping if not done properly.  If you decide to vape while driving, consider the following safety tips below:

  • Before you vape, have the e-juice filled, battery charged and the electronic device ready.  If any of this needs to be done while you are driving, it is necessary to pull over.

How to Safely Enjoy Your Electronic Cigarette

businessman holding e-cigarette and e-liquid

Relaxing at home with your electronic cigarette or vaping at a party with all your friends are both fun and enjoyable experiences.  If you have chosen the vapor smoker lifestyle, then you are probably already seeing many of the benefits it has over traditional cigarettes (i.e. no odor, a better sense of taste and smell, having more energy, the list goes on!).  However, vaping safely should continue to be a top priority.

Below are several tips that experienced vapor smokers should review and beginners ought to understand thoroughly before using their electronic cigarette:

Never leave a battery charging unattended. This rule is especially true in a very hot car.  Rechargeable lithium ion cells are safe; however, they do contain a flammable electrolyte that must be kept under pressure.  This means they can become dangerous if put under the wrong conditions or improperly manufactured.  It’s best to keep an eye on your charging battery so that you don’t come home to a mess!

Buy from a reputable dealer.  Always make certain you know what you are getting!  A cheap deal is not always the best.  At EverSmoke, our e-cigs come with a safety circuit microchip inserted to prevent overcharging and overheating.

Use the right size battery for your e-cig.  Again, buying from a reputable dealer and getting a battery that you know for sure fits the type of electronic cigarette that you have is key.

If you spill e-juice, clean it up immediately.  Our e-juices are very tasty, but seeing as most contain nicotine you want to make certain to always keep pets and children away from it.

Avoid e-juice leaks by taking a few precautions.  Taking longer and slower puffs, storing your electronic cigarette in an upright position and continuing to draw after releasing the button helps to minimize leaks.

Know your limits. New vapor smokers should never manually alter their battery’s resistance level in order to try and get the biggest vapor output possible.  Read here about the potential dangers of sub-ohm vaping from our sister company, VaporFi.

At EverSmoke, we care about you and your vaping journey!  Safety is very important to us and we want you to get the most from your electronic cigarette experience.  Browse our website to become familiar with our sleek and modern alternatives to smoking.

Can E-Cigs Improve My Sex Life?

couple smoking e-cigarette

It has always been interesting to see how smoking cigarettes and sex go hand-in-hand according to Hollywood.  After all, how is smoking cigarettes that give you bad breath, turn your teeth yellow and make you prone to various diseases all that sexy? Let’s be real, it’s not.

In fact, if you want to improve your sex life, ditching the traditional cigarette should be the first thing you do.  In addition to initial attraction, many doctors agree that a person’s sex drive is reduced by smoking.  The main reason for this is the obstruction of the circulatory flow which causes soft erections in men and can cause women to have reduced sensations.  Smoking has also been blamed for being a major culprit in erectile dysfunction.

In 2007, a Chinese study found that smoking is just as bad for your sex life as it is for the body.  Over 7,500 men were involved in the study between the ages of 35-74.  None of these men had vascular disease and they were surveyed about their sex life and smoking habits.

Several important conclusions were drawn from this research, including a “statistical link between the number of cigarettes that men smoked and the likelihood they would experience erectile dysfunction.”

All of that does not sound too “sexually appealing,” does it?  Can making the switch to the vaping world actually improve your sex life?

Let’s assume your partner is not a smoker.  Each time you have enjoyed a sexual experience together, you are releasing dangerous toxins that are not only bad for you but to them as well!  The good news is that e-cigs are odorless devices that do not release smoke into the air, but rather water vapor that won’t linger in the room or on your clothes.

Of course, there still needs to be more research conducted on the effects of e-cigs and your sex life.  However, the simple fact of not killing a romantic moment with a pungent cigarette may be appealing enough for some to make the switch now.
