4 E- Cig Exaggerations that Keep People Smoking

You all are probably well aware of the controversy that surrounds electronic cigarettes.  Anything that is relatively new and takes away from the tobacco industry is obviously going to be attacked from all ends.  As a result, there are many myths and exaggerations that float around regarding the e-cig health and safety.

Below are four common vaping embellishments that you may hear from people who are traditional smokers.

1. Electronic cigarettes are a fire hazard.

E-cigs do contain a heating element, but unlike cigarettes, there is no combustion process or open flame. Cigarette users are much more likely to start a fire through user careless.  With an e-cig, as long as you buy products that are high quality and act responsibly with the batteries and e-liquid, you shouldn’t have a problem.

2. Electronic cigarettes contain antifreeze.

This may be one of the biggest e-cig exaggerations floating around.  Let’s hope that any company that is reputable in any way would not put anti-freeze in their products.  Propylene glycol, which is used in the liquid of e-cigs, is often found in medications and various foods.  Ethylene glycol is what is found in anti-freeze.  Big difference!

3. Vaping is more addictive than smoking.

This is simply not true.  Both contain nicotine, but with the e-cig you can reduce your nicotine levels at any time.  The vaping hobby may be more addictive in pleasure and flavor, but not due to nicotine. You can have cartridges ranging from 0 milligrams (mg) of nicotine to 18 mg.  It is completely your choice.

4. Vapor from e-cigs is same as smoke from traditional cigarettes.

Wrong!  Cigarette smoke releases carcinogens into the air with every puff.  When a person vapes, the cloudlike fog they release is actually odorless water vapor.

Don’t listen to the exaggerations, myths and lies out there circulating about electronic cigarettes.  If you have questions, EverSmoke is here to provide answers.  Our vaping products are an excellent alternative to traditional smoking with a variety of e-liquid flavors and starter kits that can help you begin the new journey of vaping.

Study Shows E-Cigs Produce Formaldehyde Only Under “Extreme Conditions”

Nobody wants to ingest formaldehyde – that bad smelling liquid you may remember from biology class during the lesson on dissection. Well, did you know that every time you smoke a tobacco cigarette, that’s exactly what you’re consuming, along with a whole host of other toxic chemicals?

Gross, right? Well the same argument has been unfairly lodged against electronic cigarettes, but fortunately now we have some data that says otherwise.

A recent study, conducted by cardiologist Dr. Konstantinos Farsalinos and reported on by Wired Magazine, has revealed that some electronic cigarettes do indeed release harmful amounts of formaldehyde, but only under extreme conditions.  Formaldehyde could be detected when a vapor smoker repeatedly attempted to “dry puff” – a situation which is rare due to the unpleasant experience a dry hit provides.

These results challenge a 2015 study published in the New England Journal of Medicine that said electronic cigarettes produced a higher amount of formaldehydes than traditional analog cigarettes.  However, in that particular study, vaping habits were never taken into consideration.

In this recent study led by Dr. Farsalinos, he discovered that formaldehydes, which are carcinogenic and found in traditional tobacco cigarettes, can also be released by a third-generation electronic cigarette.  Certain advanced e-cigs offer a variety of power settings that a vapor smoker is able to customize for maximum e-liquid flavor.

However, Dr. Farsalinos explain further that the emission of aldehydes from these e-cigs was dramatically lower than those found in cigarette smoke.

The conclusion of Farsalinos study determined that in “real world” vaping situations, the amount of formaldehyde released from e-cigs is significantly less than from traditional cigarettes unless a person is participating in the rare and nasty act of repeat dry vaping.

Since its publication, the study has made big waves in the health community since now all the media hype about the dangers of formaldehyde in electronic cigarettes may need to be reconsidered.

Is it Safe to Vape and Drive?

smoking and driving

One of the most dangerous activities you do on a daily basis is getting behind the wheel of a car.  If this were not the case, you wouldn’t cringe whenever your teen pulls out of the driveway for the first time alone.

For teens and adults alike, driving is a huge responsibility and being distracted even for one moment can have devastating consequences.  Because of the real danger of distracted driving, many states have banned the use of electronic devices, such as smart phones and mp3 players, when operating a vehicle.

However, currently, there are no laws stating that an e-cig is one of the electronic devices that is considered banned.  Whether the e-cig is considered a “handheld electronic device” would be up to each individual state.

Of course, that doesn’t mean high ohm vaping in the car is totally safe.  We all know that texting and driving is a dangerous mix, but what about vaping and driving?

Vaping and Driving Safety Tips

Anything you do while driving that doesn’t involve paying attention to the road can be considered a dangerous distraction.  This includes vaping if not done properly.  If you decide to vape while driving, consider the following safety tips below:

  • Before you vape, have the e-juice filled, battery charged and the electronic device ready.  If any of this needs to be done while you are driving, it is necessary to pull over.

Can E-Cigs Improve My Sex Life?

couple smoking e-cigarette

It has always been interesting to see how smoking cigarettes and sex go hand-in-hand according to Hollywood.  After all, how is smoking cigarettes that give you bad breath, turn your teeth yellow and make you prone to various diseases all that sexy? Let’s be real, it’s not.

In fact, if you want to improve your sex life, ditching the traditional cigarette should be the first thing you do.  In addition to initial attraction, many doctors agree that a person’s sex drive is reduced by smoking.  The main reason for this is the obstruction of the circulatory flow which causes soft erections in men and can cause women to have reduced sensations.  Smoking has also been blamed for being a major culprit in erectile dysfunction.

In 2007, a Chinese study found that smoking is just as bad for your sex life as it is for the body.  Over 7,500 men were involved in the study between the ages of 35-74.  None of these men had vascular disease and they were surveyed about their sex life and smoking habits.

Several important conclusions were drawn from this research, including a “statistical link between the number of cigarettes that men smoked and the likelihood they would experience erectile dysfunction.”

All of that does not sound too “sexually appealing,” does it?  Can making the switch to the vaping world actually improve your sex life?

Let’s assume your partner is not a smoker.  Each time you have enjoyed a sexual experience together, you are releasing dangerous toxins that are not only bad for you but to them as well!  The good news is that e-cigs are odorless devices that do not release smoke into the air, but rather water vapor that won’t linger in the room or on your clothes.

Of course, there still needs to be more research conducted on the effects of e-cigs and your sex life.  However, the simple fact of not killing a romantic moment with a pungent cigarette may be appealing enough for some to make the switch now.

How to Get Started Vaping!

athlete at the start line of the stadium

You may have been hearing a lot lately about this exciting alternative to traditional analog cigarettes called vaping.  Perhaps you have even considered trying them out yourself, but you get put off by lots of conflicting information and facts. Where to start?!

Without further ado, let’s clear up a few questions you may have right now so that you too can enjoy vaping like the rest of us…

First and foremost, your electronic cigarette selection is a very personal choice.  Just as traditional smokers have preferences on cigarette brand, flavor and strength, the same is true for vaping.  At Eversmoke, we have a variety of electronic cigarette starter kits that are excellent for beginning vapers.

Our electronic cigarettes are designed with the ex-smoker in mind.  However, if you are looking for a more advanced type of electronic vaping device, you may want to consider a vaporizer. Advanced vaporizers require more knowledge and skill to operate, so definitely keep that in mind before making your purchase decision.

Ask yourself these questions: Are you looking for a kit that comes with everything you could possibly need, or do you want to stick with a basic starter kit until you are sure vaping is your thing?  You should decide what you’re looking for and what you simply can’t do without in order to help narrow down your options. Make a pro/con list if it helps!

Next you need to figure out how much nicotine you feel you may need.  If you were a heavy smoker, you may require a higher nicotine concentration starting out than someone who smokes infrequently. Learn which nicotine strength you require.

The next consideration is flavor.  If you are using an electronic cigarette with a disposable cartridge, we have 10 delicious flavor choices!  If you decide to use a vaporizer, there are much more flavor combinations.

When it comes to beginning your vaping journey, the type of electronic cigarette, nicotine strength and flavor choice are the top three things to consider. Don’t let all the options overwhelm you!

Optimistic News for E-cigarette Usage: Recent Study Finds Teens Uninterested in Flavored E-liquids

A recent study conducted by Nicotine & Tobacco Research found that teens who don’t smoke may not be overly attracted to the flavors of e-cigarette liquid as some e-cigarette critics suggest. This data is great news for e-cigarette supporters who stick fast to their beliefs that the smokeless electric cigs contains less hazards than the tobacco counterparts.

These findings and others have not quieted fears that e-cigarettes could tempt non-smokers (teens especially) to pick up the devices and start vaping.

Saul Shiffman, PhD., of the University of Pittsburgh psychology professor and Pinney Associates, stated: “Concerns about initiation of e-cigarette use by nonsmoking teens have focused on the expected and assumed appeal of flavors. It is important to replace assumptions with data. Our study shows that flavor descriptors, even those expected to appeal to youth, do not do so.”

He goes on to suggest that these though e-cigarettes provide no health benefits to the growing teen body, they are still considered less dangerous than traditional tobacco cigarettes and therefore can offer a safer smoking option for adult smokers.

Nearly 650 people—216 nonsmoking teenagers (between 13 and 17) and 432 cigarette-smoking adults—participated in the study. All participants had expressed an interest in using e-cigarettes. Researchers asked them to rank their interest in e-cigarettes (on a 1-10 scale), then the participants were offered a flavor list. The results found that the 216 teens showed only minimal interest in the e-cigarettes and this interest did not change with e-liquid flavors.

The desire to use e-cigarettes was greatest amongst adults who had recently tried a smokeless electric cig. In addition, these smoking adults showed the most interest in e-liquid flavors, including double espresso, raspberry and vanilla bean.

Studying the appeal of certain e-liquid flavors to minors is helpful because researchers can learn which flavors will lead to less minors using e-cigarettes.

Pennsylvania Governor Proposes a 40 Percent Tax Increase on E-Cigarettes

angry-man-shouting-at-chalk-income-taxGovernment taxation (on both the state and federal levels) continues to be one of the most discussed issues in the e-cigarette community.

Since his election last November, Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf has been adding budget proposals to the books – one of which involves a controversial tax increase on e-cigarettes. Wolf has proposed increasing this tax in his state by 40 percent, which has angered Pennsylvanian e-cigarette users, the local vaping industry and anti-smoking organizations.

The proposal aims to increase the taxes of wholesale vaping products, cigars, loose and smokeless tobacco.

According to a survey conducted by the National Tobacco Behavior Monitor (and released during the conference for the Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco), roughly 3 million people in the United States have begun using e-cigarettes or other vapor smoking products.

Bill Godshall, executive director and founder of Smokefree Pennsylvania, feels that taxing e-cigarettes at 40 percent is ridiculous considering that no other product has a tax that high. Godshall is also confused by Wolf’s desire to tax e-cigarettes but not tax any other products that contain nicotine, like nicotine gum, lozenges and patches.

In addition to taxing e-cigarettes, Wolf also wants to levy a price increase on tobacco cigarettes of $1 per pack. Godshall, however, is in favor of this increase, stating, “Cigarettes cause 99 percent of call tobacco-attributable morbidity, mortality and health care costs.” If this increase passes, Pennsylvania smokers will be paying $2.60 in taxes alone on their cigarettes.

The American Vaping Association (AVA) is also against Pennsylvania’s proposed tax. AVA president Gregory Conley feels that given the state’s smoking population (more than 2 million), it is wrong to deny these smokers a safe nicotine alternative.

In addition to vapers suffering from the tax increase, the owners and workers of Pennsylvania’s vaping retail stores will suffer because Pennsylvanians will likely start shopping across the borders or online to avoid taxation.

Of course, in the event that Wolf’s taxation proposal passes and you’re unwilling to pay the exorbitant price that your e-cigarettes will cost you, you still have the option of purchasing affordable, high quality vaping devices right here.

The Real Costs of a Lifetime of Smoking Tobacco

If you are searching for a good reason to quit smoking, look no further than your wallet.

Smoking is an expensive habit. In fact, it’s estimated that the average American smoker spends somewhere in the range of one to two million dollars on tobacco cigarettes and cigarette accessories over the course of their lifetime.

If you’re looking to reduce the amount of money you spend on your smoking habit, then you should definitely not move to Alaska. Alaskans reportedly spend an average of $2 million on cigarettes, while South Carolinians come off (comparatively) easy at $1.1 million.

In terms of the estimated lifelong costs associated with smoking cigarettes, people often overlook indirect expenses like healthcare and insurance. However, you must take into account all of these factors, including the healthcare costs associated with illnesses and diseases arising from years of tobacco use, the higher insurance premiums that smokers are forced to pay, and the inflation of the cost of a pack of cigarettes each year.

To learn what smoking tobacco cigarettes is really costing you, check out our recent knowledge center article.

More visual learners should also take a look at this infographic from The American Cancer Society that illustrates the real costs associated with smoking tobacco cigarettes, as well as our comparison of e-cigarettes vs. traditional smoking.

Smoking and Oral Health: No Kissing Matter

tobacco and oral healthSmiles, eating, tasting, kissing, and talking: they are all reliant upon your mouth and your oral health. Poor oral health can contribute to all kinds of other bodily ailments, and having compromised oral health can certainly impede your ability to enjoy all the many things your mouth enables you to have. Imagine not being able to taste your favorite foods, or kiss your lover, or smile big and beautiful when the emotion takes you. Suffice it to say, you need your mouth, and you need it to be in good shape.

One of the best ways to disrupt the balance of health in your mouth is by smoking tobacco cigarettes. And yes, you’re probably fully aware that tobacco causes big trouble, but are you in the know of all the ways smoking is bad for your oral health?

If you smoke cigarettes, here is a breakdown of what you are playing with. While you may not have experienced any of these issues, just being a tobacco smoker puts you in contention for them! Want to steer clear? Drop the tobacco and switch to vaping; tobacco is not worth putting your mouth on!

Chronic Bad Breath

Smoking dries your mouth out, compounding the naturally found bacteria, enabling them to create a rather foul odor. Smoking also leaves behind disgusting particles, and they don’t smell good. Add in the fact that a vitamin C deficiency is a very common cause of bad breath, and nicotine has the known side effect of causing odors of the mouth. Smoking, very simply, and for a variety of reasons, can make your breath reek. No one wants to kiss a funky mouth.

Your gums are very susceptible to smoking damage. ‘White gums’ is among the most common issue, and this can be indicative of conditions as serious as oral cancer, gum recessions, and bone detachment.

Taste and Smell Loss

Loss of your sense of smell is one of the first things you lose when you start smoking. Next up is the loss of tasting, as the palate is closely connected to the sense of smell. Say bye-bye to your ability to taste deliciousness if you opt for tobacco. Interestingly, upon stopping their usage of tobacco products, users begin to realize how compromised their sense of taste has become!

Scary, right?! Makes you want to switch, ASAP, huh? Luckily, switching to vaping is super simple to do, and can offer a much more comfortable quality of life, without the tobacco exposure! Best place to start? An EverSmoke Starter Kit!

What to Expect When Making the Transition to Vapor Cigarettes

If you have made the switch from traditional smoking to vapor cigarettes, congratulations!  Perhaps you are considering it or have just done so and need a little more understanding about what to expect.  There can be an adjustment period, but as long as you are aware of how you may feel and issues that may arise, then the transition should be much smoother.

If you have tried to quit smoking in the past, it is quite possible that it has been extremely difficult and possibly never happened for you.  With vapor cigarettes, they can help support the switch and hopefully assist in you breaking the habit of traditional smoking.  Please understand that anything worth the change, can take somewhat of an adjustment period.  Below are some things to keep in mind.

  • The first few weeks can be very difficult as you are experiencing nicotine withdrawal.  You can start off with a larger amount of nicotine in your e-cig and gradually scale it down so that it is not such a shock to your system.  Just remember, the beginning is the worst!  Your body will get used to it.
  • Not only is the nicotine withdrawal an issue but just the habit itself.  You have to get used to the feel of a vapor cigarette being different from a traditional.  The way you drag on the cigarette is different.  Again, you will get used to it.
  • You will probably get your taste buds back!  Smoking can affect how we taste but vapor cigarettes do not.  In time, you should notice a change for the better in how food tastes!
  • Great news is that you will now not have the odor from cigarette smoking or ashes that make a mess!

At EverSmoke we want to say congrats again on making the switch or even considering doing so.  We truly hope you are enjoying your vaping experience and hope to be the provider for all of your e-cig needs and wishes.  For more detailed information on what to expect when making the transition, check out our article in our knowledge center. Give yourself a gift this holiday season and make the switch!
