It’s pretty obvious that electronic cigarettes are faced with a lot of controversy. Between the proponents and the adversaries, there is a lot of mixed information going on right now. Many people are claiming electronic cigarettes are unhealthy, unsafe, and dangerous, all the while there is plenty of information to say otherwise. Currently, Canada does not permit the sales of e-cigs, however traditional tobacco cigarettes are perfectly legal. Does this make sense to anyone? E-Cigarette use is not illegal there, but sales are.
Even still, many people are fighting for bans and restrictions, and it is kind of hard to decipher the truth when personal interests really get in the way here in the States. In the quaint Bay Area city of San Rafael, many are pushing for restrictions on e-cigs to match the strict ordinances on tobacco cigarettes. This is the same case scenario in many other parts of the country as well.
Such is the case with Dr. Ellen Hahn, from the Kentucky Center for Smoke Free Policy recently went on record during a television interview, unleashing a diatribe filled with holes and inaccurate information about e-cigarettes. She is connected to the Rx powerhouse Pfizer, the notorious maker of numerous cigarette-cessation drugs. The basis of her argument was that smokers should not use vapor alternative cigarettes as a cessation device because of their abundance of carcinogenic compounds as well as the fact that no one is entirely sure what is contained within them. Perhaps she needs to actually investigate what e-cigs are really all about, and perhaps she needs to look into the more legitimate, more responsible brands that exist. Because if she were to do some research into EverSmoke, as well as many of the other well-known brands, she would find that we disclose our ingredients. Even more importantly, we do not promote or consider our products and electronic cigarette starter kits to be “cessation devices.” They are an alternative option, and our cartridges do contain nicotine, with the exemption of our 0mg nicotine cartridges. Without any uncertainty, our e-cigarette products produce no smoke, tobacco or otherwise. Nothing gets burned during the vaping process, and while vapor bears an uncanny resemblance to smoke, it is simply water vapor.
Millions of people are switching from tobacco to electronic, and the vast majority of them are well-informed about the positives. Some claim e-cigs are bad because they are tempting to teens and others who are at risk, however they are much less easily accessible than cigarettes are. Doubters also cite that e-cigarette brands are not looking towards the betterment of their users, claiming they will get hooked on vapor cigs and never quit. This is also untrue, because even though e-smokes are not meant for cessation, users gain a much greater sense of control when using them, and often can wean themselves off at their own comfort level. And in the process, they aren’t immersing themselves in toxic, carcinogenic smoke. So bans or no bans, if smokers are determined to quit using vapor, they are going to. When there’s a will, there’s a way, as the old saying goes!
