Electronic Cigarettes and the Environment

cigarettes-on-beach-sizedJust by switching to electronic cigarettes, smokers can do the environment a great service. Traditional cigarettes, by and large, are the single most polluted item on earth. Imagine, of all the trash that can be found in the global environment, the majority can be traced to a single source. That’s a lot of trash and a lot of cigarettes smoked. Whether smokers just choose to be ignorant when carelessly flicking their butts, or they assume that because they feel like paper they will easily biodegrade, cigarette butts are a nuisance anywhere they are discarded outside of a trash bin. Here’s a look at the ways e-cigarettes help the earth, because if there’s one place cigarette butts do not belong, it’s the environment.

-They are reusable. Having a reusable product means overall less gets consumed. You put a device into rotation, and you don’t produce much trash. And that includes trash that so often ends up not in a receptacle.

-Being reusable also means that there is a break in the endless cycle of traditional cigarettes and the constant stream of trash. A pack a day contributes 20 cigarette butts a day. Or 140 weekly, per person, whichever way they get discarded. It’s a ton of trash!

-E-Liquid bottles, made of plastic or glass, can easily be recycled. E-liquid is a very economic option for smokers, and it also has the benefit of being better on the environment than traditional cigarettes.

-E-cigarette cartridges last the equivalent of 20 cigarettes, and they are not so (thoughtlessly) easy to toss on the ground after use. When users change them, they are typically tossed in the trash due to their size and weight, unlike traditional cigarettes.

-Because they are less likely to be irresponsibly discarded, e-cigarettes and cartridges run less of a risk ending up a problem to wildlife. Unlike traditional cigarettes, which too often get consumed by birds and fish, e-cigarettes are less likely to get tossed into their environments and mistaken for food.

While the concept of perfectly “green” e-cigarette technology has yet to be developed, when it comes to smoking, electronic cigarettes are clearly the more responsible option. Traditional cigarettes are problematic on so many levels, and when you have the availability and option of vaping, with cleaner, more earth-friendly devices, there is no reason to use tobacco any longer!

Study Finds Difference between Dependence on Tobacco Cigarettes Compared to E-cigarettes

definition-of-research

Recently discovered data has found that former smokers of traditional tobacco cigarettes feel “less addicted” to e-cigarettes after they make the switch. In essence, the cravings experienced by smokers-turned-vapers are not as strong, even if they are using their e-cigarettes as much as they used to light up they’re old smokes. In addition, the study showed that the participants who used e-cigarettes felt they were less inclined to smoke and less irritable when they couldn’t.

According to Jonathan Foulds, the lead researcher and professor at Penn State College of Medicine stated, “The pattern was really very clear. The score was significantly less for e-cig use than for tobacco use.”

The method for the study involved taking an online survey of over 3,600 e-cigarette users, looking for comparisons between the users’ previous use of tobacco cigarettes (including their dependence) and how dependent they feel as e-cigarette users.

The conclusion was that peoples’ smoking habits remained roughly the same: 24 cigarettes per day and 24 vaping sessions per day. In other words, although the amount of nicotine intake did not change, their dependence did.

Here were some other interesting findings from the study about the comparisons between e-cigarettes and smoking:

  • People didn’t need to vape as soon as they woke. They were able to withhold initial nicotine consumption for the day by an average of 20 minutes.

Rise of Vapor Cigarettes on American School Campuses

teens-at-school
Since 1975, The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) has conducted an annual study monitoring the usage of drugs among teens. Fortunately in 2014, a decrease was seen in prescription drugs, opiod and alcohol use. There was also a decrease in traditional cigarette smoking and a rise in vapor cigarette usage, or e-smoking.

This was actually the first year that vapor cigarettes were included in the study and many believe the decrease in other drugs is due to the rise of e-cig usage. The survey included 41,000 students at 377 different public and private middle and high schools.

There continues to be disagreements as to whether or not vapor cigarettes are safer than traditional smoking. However, it has been proven that traditional smoking is no doubt bad for your health. You can read more on this in our knowledge center article titled 5 Ways Smoking Damages Your Body.

Many believe that teens have quit traditional smoking to switch to the better alternative of vaporcigarettes. Some argue however, teens that never would have smoked have taken up vaping and would not have otherwise.

The NIDA Deputy Director, Wilson Compton, states that “About 8% overall of 8th graders report use of these electronic cigarettes over the past month. About half of those had never used another kind of cigarette before. So this is perhaps a concerning exposure to nicotine at quite a young age.”

As far as the high school, 16% of 10th graders and 17% of 12th graders have used vapor cigarettes within the past month. Those percentages are higher than the rate of traditional smoking in the past years.

At Eversmoke, we do not promote e-smoking among teens and only sell our products to adults. We do believe our product is a better alternative over traditional smoking. E-smoking is on the rise all around and so much so that it was selected as the word of the year by Oxford Dictionaries.

We invite you to continue browsing our e-smoking blog and knowledge center to learn more about vapor cigarettes, or check out our e-smoking and traditional smoking comparison for some other interesting facts.

Need a Few Thousand Dollars? Switch to E-Cigarettes

Cigarettes burn moneySwitching to e-cigarettes can do so much for your life. You get the pleasure of using your device almost anywhere, you are allotted so much more control over everything that deals with your habit, you don’t have to be self conscious about how you smell, you don’t have to worry about the ramifications of tobacco, and vaping can save big money.

Yes, you read that correctly. Switching to e-cigs can save thousands of dollars!

You are surely aware of how expensive smoking traditional cigarettes gets, and how much more costly it can become when you factor in all the other expenses such as higher insurance premiums, health-related expenses that come as a result of smoking, and the additional costs such as gum, perfume and cologne, lighters, etc. Suffice it to say, tobacco smoke ain’t cheap!

When you switch to vaping, the expenses really begin to take a nosedive. Many smokers are unsure of vaping, especially when it comes to saving money because their first impression on vaping is having to shell out approximately $100 towards a starter kit. That seems like such a high price compared to the $10 spent on a pack of cigarettes.  However, it must be noted that users typically do not purchase new starter kits constantly. It’s a one-time cost that starts saving you money immediately. While you may need to update an item here or there, and possibly add in a few new things as you feel necessary, your costs go way down because you will no longer be spending $11 daily ($77 weekly; $4,004 yearly!) on smoking.

Cartridges become the equivalent to packs of cigarettes as they are they part of the e-cig that contains the nicotine liquid and flavor. E-Cig cartridges are designed to go the distance of 1.5-2 packs of cigarettes, and each cartridge can cost as low as $2.22! So, if you are using one cartridge per day, as many vapers do, your weekly total will be coming out to $15.54, or $808 yearly! What a difference!

So, are you ready to ditch the cigarette packs for the alternative? Ready to save some serious money? E-cigarettes are changing the way smokers enjoy nicotine, and besides, who couldn’t use an extra few thousands dollars every year?!

Love Your Body: Why 2015 is the Best Time to Switch to E-Cigs

How Smoking Affects the HeartNew year got you thinking about resolutions? Well, if you are looking to get fit, get healthy, or take better care of  your body, doing so without tobacco smoke is the way to go! Here are 5 ways cigarettes affect the body. Every major system of the body is affected by cigarette smoke and it isn’t pretty, so you may really want to consider an alternative!

Bones:

Research recently found a link between tobacco smoke and osteoporosis. While there are many other attributing causes of this awful disease, smoking is one of them.

Reproductive Health & Pregnancy:

Everyone knows one of the worst things a pregnant woman can do is expose herself, and her unborn child to cigarette smoke. Those who irresponsibly take the chance and smoke while carrying endanger their baby’s life in so many ways. Risks include low birth weight, preterm birth, chances of baby being stillborn, ectopic pregnancy, sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), and the risk of the child being born with orofacial clefts. Additionally, smoking can also have a negative effect on men’s reproductive health by decreasing fertility.

Cancer:

Smoking causes cancer. We can’t get more blunt than that. Here are some of the top varieties of cancer known to be caused by the 70+ carcinogens found among the 7000 chemicals in cigarettes:

  • Trachea

  • Bronchus

  • Esophagus

  • Oral Cavity

  • Lip

  • Nasopharynx

  • Nasal Cavity

  • Larynx

  • Stomach

  • Bladder

  • Pancreas

  • Kidney

  • Liver

  • Uterine Cervix

  • Colon

  • Rectum

Lungs & Respiratory System:

Cigarette smoke has the potential to destroy the lungs and respiratory system, as it is well documented. Here are a list of the illnesses known to be caused by smoking that affect the lungs and breathing (not including lung cancer):

  • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
  • Emphysema
  • Asthma
  • Pneumonia
  • Tuberculosis
  • Chronic Bronchitis

Heart & Blood Vessels

The negative effect of smoking on the heart is also common knowledge. The diseases it can cause include: atherosclerosis, aneurysms, coronary heart disease, peripheral arterial disease (PAD), stroke, as well as varieties of cardiovascular disease: high blood pressure, heart-related chest pain, heart attack and/or damage to the arteries, and coronary heart disease (CHD).

So, if you love your body, stop smoking tobacco cigarettes. If you’re trying to take better care of your body this year, drop the cigs for good. If you’re looking for a better way to have nicotine and keep up with the hand-to-mouth habit, consider the option of smoke free, tobacco free electronic cigarettes. What to Expect When Making the Transition to Vapor Cigarettes

making-it-possible

If you have made the switch from traditional smoking to vapor cigarettes, congratulations!  Perhaps you are considering it or have just done so and need a little more understanding about what to expect.  There can be an adjustment period, but as long as you are aware of how you may feel and issues that may arise, then the transition should be much smoother.

If you have tried to quit smoking in the past, it is quite possible that it has been extremely difficult and possibly never happened for you.  With vapor cigarettes, they can help support the switch and hopefully assist in you breaking the habit of traditional smoking.  Please understand that anything worth the change, can take somewhat of an adjustment period.  Below are some things to keep in mind.

  • The first few weeks can be very difficult as you are experiencing nicotine withdrawal.  You can start off with a larger amount of nicotine in your e-cig and gradually scale it down so that it is not such a shock to your system.  Just remember, the beginning is the worst!  Your body will get used to it.
  • Not only is the nicotine withdrawal an issue but just the habit itself.  You have to get used to the feel of a vapor cigarette being different from a traditional.  The way you drag on the cigarette is different.  Again, you will get used to it.
  • You will probably get your taste buds back!  Smoking can affect how we taste but vapor cigarettes do not.  In time, you should notice a change for the better in how food tastes!
  • Great news is that you will now not have the odor from cigarette smoking or ashes that make a mess!

At EverSmoke we want to say congrats again on making the switch or even considering doing so.  We truly hope you are enjoying your vaping experience and hope to be the provider for all of your e-cig needs and wishes.  For more detailed information on what to expect when making the transition, check out our article in our knowledge center. Give yourself a gift this holiday season and make the switch!

Vaping & Romance: The Better Duo

urlWhat does vaping have to do with your love life? A whole lot, especially if you are a smoker who is looking for love and finding a difficult time working around the smoking factor. Sure, there are plenty of smokers out there who are also looking for love, but why limit your options? Here is a look at how switching to e-cigarettes can benefit your love life!

Being a smoker puts a label on you, whether you like it or not. And many nonsmokers see it as a marker of a stereotype, regardless of whether or not you live up to those things.

It is a common perception that smokers smell bad, are always looking for a chance to sneak away to go smoke, they spend too much money on cigarettes, they have bad teeth, and the fact that smoking comes with a long term risk of health problems and possibly even deadly circumstances; so why would someone who is playing the field want to settle down with someone who comes with all this baggage? Being realistic, yes, there are those who will overlook something like smoking for a chance at a meaningful connection, but there are many others who won’t. Dating can be all about strategic moves!

Smoking is an awful habit, and it is generally frowned upon by nonsmokers, and even former smokers themselves. In fact, many former smokers would not ever consider dating a smoker because they prefer to avoid the temptation of cigarettes altogether.

And then there is the discussion of compatibility. Wouldn’t it be unfortunate to be really into someone, and then find out they would not be willing to date you because you are a smoker?

When you make the life-altering switch to vapor cigs, you remove yourself from the smoking bracket. You allow yourself to be classified as a vaper, and as a potential partner you are free from being looked at as a smoker. Yes, there may still be those unwilling to date even a vaper, but you will no longer smell like an ashtray, have to excuse yourself for a dalliance with a cigarette, and you can begin to enjoy all the many ways life gets nicer without the smoke.

Vapor Smoking and Your Pets

pets-friendship-friends

For the health of smokers everywhere, the rise in the use of electronic cigarettes is a good statistic. Furthermore, vapor smoking not only has a positive effect smokers first hand, but it effects those around them. Although there is study material on the effects of tobacco cigarettes use on smokers and their families, what is often overlooked (at least by smokers) is the effect they have on our four-legged children: the family pet.

The positive effects of vapor smoking on the family pet

Just as people are negatively affected by secondhand smoke, pets are affected as well. However, while some pets are known to leave the area when an owner is smoking, most stay close and; thus, continue to breathe in harmful secondhand smoke.

In addition to breathing in secondhand smoke, dogs can also suffer from allergic dermatitis (a skin condition characterized by an inflammation of the skin). Moreover, pets can develop cancer from tobacco cigarettes just like their owners. A pet owner who switches to electronic cigarettes does not have to worry about increased vet bills trying to ease their pet suffering from an allergic reaction or even different forms of secondhand smoke-related cancers.

Cats in particular are susceptible to third-hand smoke (the smell and toxins that cling to surfaces exposed to tobacco smoke) because they are meticulous groomers—licking themselves to stay clean and ingesting the deadly cocktail.

With a switch from traditional cigarettes to vapor smoking, however, Fido or Fluffy can continue to curl up in your lap without fear of becoming sick.

A Word of Caution

However, whether you smoke traditional or electronic cigarettes, pet owners must be mindful of where their devices are stored because the nicotine—whether in liquid form or tobacco—is potentially fatal to animals. In recent months, there have been instances where animals have picked up and punctured an e-liquid cartridge and have become seriously ill or died due to acute nicotine poisoning.

Vapers should also be mindful of where they store their electronic cigarettes because the device itself, if ingested, could result in an animal needing surgery to repair any tears or retrieving the device if it becomes lodged in the throat.

Animal experts state that nicotine ingestion can cause vomiting, tremors and an abnormal heart rate in any cat or dog.

What to do in the event of ingestion

If you believe that your pet has chewed on your electronic cigarette (or any other potentially harmful substance), the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) recommends that you take 30-60 seconds to collect any of the material involved and place it in a sealable bag and then see your vet immediately.

If the potential toxin is unidentifiable, this can help the vet/toxicologist narrow down the substance.

As you can see, it isn’t just people that require attention when it comes to smoking and any decisions about how you manage vapor smoking. At eversmoke.com—along with our blog and knowledge center—you can learn about the exciting world of vapor smoking and electronic cigarettes.
