Ways the Body Improves Post Tobacco

cigarettes_17r90ns-17r90ouThere are a lot of ways the body begins to recover when tobacco is no longer being funneled in on a regular basis. If you are thinking about making the switch to electronic cigarettes, here are some of the ways you can expect your body to react when no longer having the toxins of smoke and tar building up in your system. The following is a timeline of how the body repairs over time, showing how amazing the human body is, after all!

20 Minutes: Yes, your body’s chemistry changes in just 20 minutes after smoking a cigarette, with heart rate and blood pressure levels returning to their normal settings.

12 Hours: In 12 hours after your last tobacco cigarette, carbon monoxide levels in the blood stream return to normal.

2 Weeks: In just two weeks, lung function and circulation begin to improve.

1-9 Weeks: In this time period, the body begins to recover from typical symptoms of smoking like the infamous smoker’s cough and having shortness of breath. The cilia lining the lungs begin to function normally again, and they get to work cleaning the lungs, lessening the risk of infection.

1 Year: Your risk of coronary heart disease drops by 50%, making it half as high as a smoker’s risk.

5 Years: Your risk of certain cancers is now at a dramatically lower rate than that of a smoker’s. The risk of mouth cancer, throat cancer, esophagus cancer, and bladder cancer is now 50% less than that of smokers’. The risk of stroke and cervical cancer have also lowered  as well.

10 Years: The risk of pancreatic and larynx cancer has now decreased, and the risk of fatal lung cancer is now cut in half compared to smokers’ risks.

15 Years: The risk of heart disease is now the same as what nonsmokers face.

We all know tobacco is harmful, but being able to see exactly how the body takes care of itself over time is rather impressive. The human body is an amazing vessel, and taking care of it over the long run is so worth the while. Festival Season is On, Bring Your E-Cigs!

3e04d3b3a09d5027e959832d72afd7f0SXSW, the annual music and arts festival that takes over Austin, Texas is officially going on at the moment. Running from March 7-16, it’s a cultural extravaganza, with trendsetters, hipsters, and thousands of other artsy types flocking to take part! If you are going to be hitting the scene in Austin, we strongly encourage you to bring along your e-cigs, as they are totally welcome!

Large scale music festivals have gotten more popular than ever over the past few years, and while they are all about the music, dancing, style, and the uninhibited atmosphere, what they promise festival-goers is an amazingly good time. And, just like any environment where all things fashionable and trendy are celebrated, electronic cigarettes have become a staple at festivals.

In fact, it’s not uncommon for e-cigarettes to be considered part of the event, with major e-cigarette companies as sponsors and even handing out samples. Some festivals feature vaping tents, vaping lounges, and much promotion of electronic cigarettes in general. As anyone will tell you, hanging out with thousands of other people over the course of several days often in packed, sweaty conditions is much better when smoke is not involved!

At festivals, electronic cigarettes allow you to be immersed in all of the magic, surrounded by plenty of others, without annoying anyone with smoke. You won’t have to worry about accidentally burning anyone with a cigarette cherry, nor will you have to be concerned about searching for places to dispose of your cigarettes in proper places when you’re lost in the crowd; we all know that dropping butts on the ground is entirely not socially responsible!

E-cigarettes are also easier and much more convenient to use when you’re busy enjoying yourself, especially because accessories give a lot of leeway. Batteries last a while, and if you have a Portable Charging Case, you can charge your batteries without an outlet and have great e-cigarette storage for extra cartridges. You also have the option to use a lanyard to keep your e-cig safe around your neck, which is perfect if you will be dancing, or not carrying anything extra with you.

So if this year takes you to SXSW or any of the other major music and arts festivals happening around the country this spring and summer, bring your e-cigarettes! You’ll fit right in with the progressive atmosphere, and you save yourself from the hassles of smoke!

Combating Combustible Tobacco Use

Fifty years ago the United States took a step forward to reduce the use of tobacco and eliminate its harms with the “Smoking and Health: Report of the Advisory Committee to the Surgeon General of the Public Health Service.”

Thanks to much concerted efforts, the number of tobacco users has seriously decreased since then. In 1965 when the report began, 43% of adults smoked, but by 2012 that has dropped to 18%. Despite this progress though, millions of Americans still expose themselves to harmful smoke and chemicals in traditional (combustible) tobacco products.

A new “Perspective” piece appeared in the January edition of the New England Journal of Medicine: Smoke, the Chief Killer — Strategies for Targeting Combustible Tobacco Use.

This is a landmark piece that recognizes “…combustibles as the chief tobacco killer calls for a progressive public health approach that focuses on the known, overwhelming risks of these products. Specifically, we believe that evidence-based, population-wide policies should be implemented that particularly target reducing combustible tobacco use.”

Despite the desire by many to reduce the numbers of people using combustible tobacco, many public health service groups have been unenthusiastic about various smoking alternatives available on the market today.

It’s important to note that it is the smoke, not the nicotine, which makes tobacco cigarettes so harmful. Alternatives like the electronic (smokeless) cigarette deliver the same taste, but without the smoke, tar and other harmful substances that affect not only the user, but those around them.

The article authors go on to acknowledge the great amount of research that clearly defines the overall harms of tobacco products. Furthermore, “…given that up to 98% of tobacco-related deaths are attributable to combustible products, the net harms of these products, including harms from secondhand smoke, dwarf those of other forms of tobacco use…”

Also, research shows “…all the noncombustible delivery vehicles are substantially less dangerous than combustible tobacco products….”

Furthermore, we need to communicate intelligently about harm reduction: not all nicotine-containing products are equal, and the public health focus should be on eliminating combustible tobacco products, even if some people who give up combustibles will continue using FDA-approved medications, e-cigarettes, or smokeless tobacco products indefinitely.

As the discussion  about tobacco harm reduction continues, it’s inevitable that many smokers will seek alternatives so they can continue to enjoy the “act” of smoking but not expose themselves and loved ones to dangerous substances.  E-cigarettes (http://www.eversmoke.com/e-cigarettes.html) are one type of non-combustible, alternative nicotine delivery device in which users can get a similar experience but without smoke, tar, etc.

Be Proper: E-Cig Etiquette

1193561000Just because you vape instead of smoke doesn’t mean there isn’t some sort of social protocol you should follow. While manners are not essential to daily life, they certainly help when you’re around others. If you’re a vaper, you wouldn’t want a cigarette smoker sputtering smoke and dropping ash in your personal space, would you?

An issue to consider with e-cigarettes, as new as they are, is the strange reputation they have acquired with vapers using their alternative smoking devices as openly as possible. While that is awesome, and one of the best benefits to using e-cigarettes is that they can be used in many public places and amongst groups of people, it’s important for e-smokers to be responsible ambassadors for the products!

Here are some tips for vaping in public that will help you handle your e-cigarette etiquette and remain an excellent representative for the vaping community.

Be Respectful

Being loud ‘n proud is fine in some circumstances, however if you are vaping, you are an adult and that means you don’t need to be obnoxious or unnecessarily ruffle any feathers. In public, keep your vaping to a minimum in large crowds and do your best to avoid situations that are not well ventilated. Why annoy others if you don’t need to? While you know vapor is absolutely different than smoke, not everyone does and respecting their differences is the right thing to do.

Promote Education

Change comes with awareness, and one way to get those around you to be more open and understanding of electronic cigarettes is to educate them politely. E-cigarettes are still very much new products in the scope of smoking, and even with their many benefits, there is still room to be misunderstood. All e-smokers want them to gain mainstream acceptance, so do your best to explain their many benefits, dispel rumors, and give your own positive experiences so that others will have a firsthand account of the great aspects.

Ask if You Aren’t Sure

If you aren’t sure about vaping in a certain public environment, the best solution to the issue is to ask others around you. If you want to get technical, if there is no sign posted “No E-Cigarettes Allowed” (or similar semantics) then you are most likely free to vape, however it never hurts to make sure. It will help to avoid an awkward situation for yourself, and lessen the risk of offending others in your space.

E-cigarette etiquette doesn’t have to be complicated, however having some manners never hurt anyone! If you aren’t sure where to begin when educating others on the positives and truths regarding electronic cigarettes, feel free to use the EverSmoke Knowledge Center as a starting point. We look forward to the future of e-cigs, especially in regards to their public acceptance!

E-Cigarettes: The Only Way to Smoke Indoors

electronic-cigarettes-shopWhile there is endless discussion on why traditional cigarettes are entirely awful for one’s health, the fact that they are so unbelievably unhealthy for your home can often go overlooked. Many e-smokers know this very well, for having switched to e-cigarettes, they can clearly see through the smoke and appreciate the ways their home is much cleaner and more comfortable when vaping.

In the same ways that cigarettes wreak havoc on the insides of the body, they can really do a number on the interior of a home. In fact, just like in the body, there are times the damage from tobacco inside of a home can be irreparable, which is never good considering a home is typically an investment.

The following are four of the main ways traditional cigarettes can cause damage to your home, and why smokeless cigarettes can help lessen the burden.

Stained Surfaces In Your Home

Tobacco stains on walls and ceilings are obvious, but in addition to these, there are countless other surfaces in your home that can bear the damage of smoke. Floors, ceiling fans, furniture, curtains, and even wallpaper can be ruined, need repairs or replacing as a result. As electronic cigarettes contain no tobacco, produce no smoke, and release few substances, they do not leave lingering remnants that will stain or destroy.

The Air Conditioner

Not as obviously noticeable as the walls or furniture, however just as important is your A/C and heating system, especially if you reside in an extreme climate. As these systems run by filtering air through a filter, smoking creates an excess of particles to filter, and this can cause you’re A/C system to work that much harder and go through filters that much quicker, which if not done regularly, can cause the machine to break down. E-Cigarette vapor contains very little substance whatsoever, and it breaks down effortlessly, never posing a problem to air conditioners.

Electronic Items

Cigarette smoke can cause electronic components to corrode. Because it clings to every surface it comes into contact with, especially those that are emitting heat (like computers), smoke and tar will accumulate, and cause additional dust to stick to it. This causes build up over time, which can be potentially dangerous. If you can avoid adding to the problem, since dust occurs naturally, why not do so? E-cigarettes leave nothing behind, as vapor dissipates without a trace and will not encourage dust to stick and settle on your electronic devices.

Fire

Cigarettes are a fire hazard, and a single cigarette can be responsible for huge, deadly fires, smoke damage, and additional serious destruction. Estimates from the US Fire administration put deaths as a result of cigarette-caused fires at about 1000 per year. A great way to avoid this is to opt for the electronic alternative, as they work without fire, leaving no risk of flame or hot falling cherries.

E-Cigarettes take so many of the issues that accompany traditional cigarettes and render them obsolete. They are the obvious, more convenient choice if you plan on smoking indoors, and they do not leave behind consequences to deal with years afterwards. Tobacco Industry Prepares for Change with Altria’s Purchase of Green Smoke

vaping_jan_036-In recent electronic cigarette news, tobacco giant Altria announced that they purchased the Green Smoke brand through their subsidiary, Nu Mark LLC. At a price approximated at $110 million, with an expected closing sometime in the second quarter, this is major headway for the e-cigarette industry.

While they are not the first tobacco company to expand into the e-cigarette market, the move is significant because they are one of the largest, and Green Smoke is one of the most known brands of alternative tobacco products. What this sale signifies on a larger scale is how big electronic cigarettes are getting, and how much competition they’ve put on the tobacco industry.

Nearly two years ago, in April of 2012, Lorillard expanded into the e-cigarette market, becoming the first tobacco company to do so. They acquired the brand Blu, and set the trend for other tobacco companies to start cutting their losses from smokers switching to e-cigs, by joining the competition.

While there is still plenty of speculation from skeptics in regards to the safety, standards, and research regarding them, time continues to show that consumers trust these products and are fully aware of the facts about e-cigarettes. They have experienced such positive results that they are only furthering the industry and inspiring others to do so. Along these same lines, the impending FDA regulations for e-cigarettes will hopefully prove to be promising, giving further credibility to the industry with quality standards and monitoring for safety.

With big tobacco moving into the e-cigarette market, it only solidifies the strength of alternative cigarettes as an industry. Business predictions slate e-cigarettes to overpass tobacco cigarette sales entirely within the next decade. Smokeless cigarette sales are expected to hit around $1.7 billion this year, so these numbers are quite promising. The recent purchase of Green Smoke only furthers this prediction, as the tobacco industry prepares for an electronic renaissance in the coming years.

Dealing with the Snow: Enjoying e-cigs no matter what the weather

Winter Snow Storm Hammers Northeastern USThis year’s nonstop onslaught of inclement weather throughout the US has seen unprecedented amounts of snow and crazy conditions, attributed to the lovely polar vortex. Who ever heard of winter storms getting names? Wasn’t that a luxury once reserved only for hurricanes? It seems as though no sooner than areas recover from one storm, it’s time to prepare for the next blizzard and subsequent days of freezing temperatures.

While it can be a wonderful thing to be an e-smoker rather than a tobacco smoker during the winter, especially when you don’t have to bundle up just for a 5 minute smoke break, there are things to keep in mind if you will be vaping during this particularly brutal winter!

So if you are a vaper, how do you deal? Here are some tips for handling the weather and still enjoying your e-cigarettes in the process.

When Losing Power is of Concern:

How will you charge your e-cigarette batteries if you have no power? Obviously that is a big deal, however you do have options. Having a Portable Charging Case would be really ideal in this situation, as it can charge your batteries 4 times before it needs to be recharged. Another option would be to have a nice supply of disposable e-cigarettes, which do not require charging and they can be used right out of the package.

If You Leave Town:

Traveling with e-cigarettes can be done easily. Make sure to pack enough extra batteries, cartridges, a couple of versatile chargers, and whatever accessories you use to keep things simple. Even though you may have to leave quickly, it’s always important to have a supply of extra cartridges just in case of emergencies, you’re covered. Disposable e-cigarettes are also a great example of what to have on hand in case of an emergency.

If you’re Sticking it Out, Trying Not to Go Stir-Crazy:

Make sure your e-cigs are handy and make sure you’ve got plenty of gear to keep you warm. If you’ve got power, turn the heat up to a comfortable temperature; if you’ve got a fireplace take full advantage of it and get burning bright. Huddle close in to your loved ones and/or animals, and vape on dreaming of summer!

Are You In One of the Top 5 E-Cig Groups?

E-cigs appeal to many types of people for different reasons. And their ages and professions vary as much as there are brands of smokeless cigarettes being hawked.

Interestingly though, certain groups are particularly well-suited to enjoy e-cigs. Here’s a review of the top five groups that find these smokeless gems to be their pot of gold.

Gamer Community

In the US, according to Wikipedia, the average video game player is 30 and has been playing video games for over 12 years. Gamers tend to spend a great deal of time indoors where tobacco smoking can be prohibited. But smoking tobacco in front of a computer can lead to a build-up of gunk inside the system and cause damage. Smokeless cigarettes don’t produce anything to build-up in the first place.

Many gamers play online with other opponents, and hate waiting for someone to return from a smoke break. But smokeless cigarettes are fast and easy, allowing gamers to return literally within moments.

Bartenders

The public cigarette ban has left many smokers out in the cold. Few bars allow smoking now, but most smokers want to enjoy a cigarette while drinking and socializing. These things just go together!

Patrons having to go outside for a cigarette pose several problems for the bartender (and the owner of the bar). The more time a customer spends outside, the less he drinks. Instead of making tips on drinks, bartenders polish glasses. Breaking up a customer’s steady purchase of alcohol, decreases the amount of drinks bought.

Bartenders make more money when customers are inside and comfortable, where a simple nod of the head communicates a sale.

Food Service Staff

Working in a restaurant can be a hectic job at times. Even if waiting on just a single table, there is certainly not enough time to go out back and smoke a complete cigarette—and still get a decent tip anyway.

Smokeless cigarettes, on the other hand, don’t require much time. Most of the time, two or three puffs off an e-cig is enough to satisfy any urge.

Landlords & Homeowners & Renters

Cigarette smoke leaves a film on windows and walls that can be difficult to remove. Falling asleep with a tobacco cigarette in your hand can have tragic consequences. Burn holes on tables and floors are common occurrences for those who smoke regular cigarettes.

Electronic vapor from smokeless cigarettes doesn’t have all the particulates that build up and cause damage and yellowing. E-cigs have no flame, so they can’t burn anything or anyone.

Surgeon General Adds to the Ills of Tobacco Smoke

Quit-Smoking-CigarettesWe all know how negative tobacco cigarettes are, however 50 years into the war against tobacco, scientists are still finding new links between smoking and disease. In the most recent report to be released from the surgeon general, various factors were examined, revealing the current state of smoking in America, and new diseases to be attributed to tobacco.

While this probably doesn’t come as a surprise to anyone who knows how toxic cigarettes are, it sure does give good reason for smokers to stay as far away from tobacco as possible, and make the switch to electronic smoking as an alternative. While the number of smokers is down drastically since 1964, when the surgeon general declared smoking to increase death 42% of adults were smoking, today the number steadies around 18%.

The newest report of diseases cigarette smoking contributes to include rheumatoid arthritis, Type 2 diabetes, macular degeneration, and erectile dysfunction, as well as two more types of cancer; liver and colorectal, and for mothers who smoke during pregnancy, infants can be born with cleft palate defects as a result.

The number of people who die each year from smoking-related causes is approximately half a million worldwide, with lung cancer still being the largest cause. It doesn’t matter if you’re male or female; the death rate among smokers equally affects men and women. Interestingly, as smoking rates have decreased, so have the number of lung cancer diagnoses at a rate of 3% among men, and 1% among women.

Also covered in the report were not only the medical statistics on tobacco and disease, but the financial effects of smoking related illnesses, which are costing the nation $130 billion, and an additional $150 billion annually due to lost productivity.

So what is the nation doing about the smoking problem? The one measure that has always seemed to work is raising the price of cigarettes. It has been found that for every 10% price increase, the rate of smoking drops 4%.

As an alternative, if you are a smoker, consider switching to electronic cigarettes. With no tobacco and no chance for smoke, you can steer clear of the stigma. And just to add to their many benefits, the cost is considerably lower! Millions have made the switch and have not looked back; check out our selection of e-cigarette starter kits today!

Tobacco Giant Philip Morris Entering Fast Growing Electronic Smoking Market

A few days ago, Philip Morris International announced it’s getting into the e-cigarette business, after dismissing the product in July according to The Washington Post. The tobacco giant will start selling e-cigarettes which directly compete with its tobacco product, since nicotine vapor is gaining popularity as an alternative to smoking by a growing number of Americans.

The world’s biggest tobacco company is spending $100 million to develop e-cigarettes that could destroy its 160 year legacy in the tobacco business.

There are three main reasons why Philip Morris is getting to the vapor smoking market:

  1. Competitors are already making e-cigarettes. A few of Philip Morris’s competitors have either developed their own e-cigarette or bought startups in the fast-growing electronic smoking market.
  2. Tobacco cigarettes are already disappearing. Fewer Americans are smoking than ever before, according to Gallup. Tobacco has been lucrative for well over 100 years, but companies are accepting the fact that products are facing a long-term decline. They have no choice but to develop a new product.
  3. The international tobacco market is slowing down. Philip Morris has always had strong name recognition, deep market penetration and the addictive nature of its tobacco cigarettes has made it internationally popular. 30 percent of its market share has been primarily in Southeast Asia. But the “cash-generating machine,” as Morningstar has referred to it, has started to fail in sales.

The key reasons Philip Morris wants a piece of the e-cigarette market is that the product doesn’t have many of the social and health challenges tobacco smoking faces but still deliver nicotine that users crave.
